Outsourcing to India? 5 Must Eat Foods in Hyderabad, India

I am regularly asked by clients who are visiting our BPO (Business Process Outsourcing)office in Hyderabad, India about Indian food. I spend over 6 months a year in India and have done for 2 years and so by now I consider myself an expert on culinary Indian matters! As founder of remote staff services provider, OutsourcePal.co.uk I have had to quickly immerse myself into Indian culture and diet. But it hasn?t been difficult because I love Indina food. When a client visits our office I am quick to take them to try the many fine foods available in India.

Without further delay here are my top 5 foods:

1) The biryani (most commonly chicken but sometimes veg and lamb/mutton).

This is a classic Hyderabad dish. It reminds of the British ?Sunday roast? in the sense that it is virtually a default dish for all Hyderabadis. Its not a question of ?do you like it?? its just accepted that everyone likes it.

A biryani consists of yellow rice marinated with herbs, spices and large fresh succulent portions of chicken eaten off the bone. As important as the chicken and rice is what accompanies it ie a serving of a hot curry sauce, some curd (yoghurt) and finally a few slices of raw onion. A squeeze of fresh lemon completes the famous chicken biryani! Needless to say, I am addicted to this dish and its the first thing I look forward to when back in India. (best washed down with an ice cold Kingfisher beer!). If you are a client of Outsource Pal and you have visited India then you will have tried a chicken biryani!

2) Curd

To me curd was something from a nursery rhyme until I realised that it was yoghurt. It seemed strange at first to mix yoghurt with rice especially using the same plate from which I had just eaten a hot curry. But I soon got used to it. Hyderabadis tend to finish every meal with a helping of cool curd on top of their rice. Its a fine way to finish a meal. Delicious!

3) Dal

The simple and somewhat under rated dal is one of my favourite foods and a staple diet. There are many different types of dal. My favourite is the simple but delicious tadka dal. Healthy, filling and refreshing all at the same time. Mmmmm!

4) Idli

My favourite Indian breakfast is idli. Its light, healthy and delicious. It comes served with a chutney and I can highly recommend the spicy coconut chutney.

Apparently its made from a black lentil mixed with rice though its consistency feels more like a light cake.

Whatever it is ? it makes for a great start to the day!

5) Dhosa

Dhosa is the most flexible of dishes! It seems to pop up at all time in Hyderabad whether that be for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack! Again it is best served with a chutney.

One of my favourite Indian foods.

India is a great place for food lovers so if you are thinking of outsourcing to India please be sure to visit our office in Hyderabad and let us take you for a biryani!
