Military Heroes of SE Texas

A tribute to the soldiers of Southeast Texas who lost their lives in service in the past 10 years.

Army Spc. Anthony Maddox, 22, of Nederland. Maddox died Monday, July 22, 2013 in Afghanistan.

?

Army Pfc. David Drake, 22, of Lumberton, was hit by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan on September 28, 2011, killing Drake and four other soldiers.

Army Staff Sgt. Leston "Tony" Winters, 30, of Sour Lake, was killed by a roadside bomb on July 15, 2010, in Afghanistan.

Marine Dustin Ray Chaney, 27, of Lumberton, died from congestive heart failure on May 22, 2010. Earlier in 2006, Chaney's unit's Humvee was hit by IED in Iraq, after which he began to have heart problems and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Army Chief Warrant Officer Rodney Jarvis, 34, of Jasper, died from a heart attack on July 13, 2009, while serving in Iraq.

Army Sgt. Shaun Tousha, 30, of Hull was killed April 9, 2008, in Iraq when a roadside bomb blew up the vehicle in which he was riding.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy Wayne Burris, 22, of Liberty, died in Iraq on Oct. 8, 2007, shortly after an IED detonated under his vehicle. Burris survived the initial blast and helped two wounded Marines from the vehicle. He then returned to the vehicle to get some equipment and inadvertently detonated a second hidden explosive.

Army Spc. Kamisha Jane Block, 20, of Vidor died in Iraq on Aug. 16, 2007. A military police officer and the first area woman to die in the current conflicts, Block was shot and killed by another soldier.

Army Pfc. Brandon Keith Bobb, 20, of Port Arthur, died in Iraq July 17, 2007, when an IED detonated under his Humvee.

Army Spc. Ryan Berg, 19, of Sabine Pass, died Jan. 9, 2007, when a sniper's bullet hit him in the shoulder during an attack on his unit in Iraq.

Army Sgt. Daniel Winegeart, 23, of Honey Island, died Oct. 17, 2006, when his light medium tactical vehicle drove off an overpass in Iraq.

Army Staff Sgt. Edward Charles "Jay" Reynolds, 27, of Port Arthur, died Sept. 25, 2006, in a bridge collapse in Iraq.

Army Staff Sgt. Benjamin Dewayne Williams, 30, of Orange, was killed by a roadside bomb during his third tour in Iraq on June 20, 2006.

Army Chief Warrant Officer Wesley Charles Fortenberry, 38, of Woodville, died April 11, 2004, when his Apache helicopter was shot down in Baghdad.

?

Marine Lance Cpl. Shane Goldman, 19, of Little Cypress, died April 5, 2004, during a street riot in Iraq.

?

Army Sgt. 1st Class Gary L. Collins, 32, of Beaumont, died Nov. 8, 2003, when his vehicle hit an IED in Iraq.
