For those followers who are currently unaware, tumblr established a new set of guidelines a few weeks ago that distinguish blogs that are ?NSFW? and ?Adult?. You can find details here.
http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/nsfw
This blog was flagged as ?adult? by tumblr which means that this blog is effectively walled off. No new posts from this blog will ever show up in searches or in tags. The blog becomes effectively hidden from any search index. This has repercussions for everyone on tumblr as the choice on this flag was made by tumblr and not the owners of this blog. The amount and nature of what is considered NSFW is unknown and any tumblr user could find themselves similarly walled off without warning.
Tumblr is free to decide what content they host as they are a private company but tumblr has also effectively changed the terms of service without any notice or warning. This should alarm everyone, as this sets a precedent that tumblr will simply make changes that they suspect won?t be popular without telling anyone.
Tumblr doesn?t get to have it both ways. They can?t try to keep the 20% of traffic that comes from adult content to pay their advertisers yet shun that same content in the hopes of attracting more ?sanitized? businesses.
