Computers are one of the greatest tools humankind has ever created. They are so great and versatile that a whole productive work day can be spent in front of one. While this is great for efficiency of the business it isn?t so great for your posture. Almost all work requires the use of arms and hands. Therefore, most workplace injuries affect the hands, wrists, elbows, neck, and shoulders. Work using the legs can lead to injuries of the legs, hips, ankles, and feet. Some back problems also result from repetitive activities?(Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, 2005).

Work related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) are recognized as leading causes of significant human suffering, loss of productivity, and economic burdens on society. However, we do not have reliable estimates of the number of WMSDs in Canada (Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, 2005). WMSD are a group of painful disorders that affect muscles, nerves and tendons. WMSDs are generally a chronic pain condition that only gets worse with time and no intervention.

Exercise interventions have been shown to help reduce pain, increase postural awareness and improve static posture in workers (Jaromi, Nemeth, Kranicz, Laczko, & Betlehem, 2012)?(Macedo, Trindade, Brito, & Dantas, 2010)?(National Research Council, 2001). These interventions when performed and managed correctly can prevent future pain developing from postural deficiencies and only take a few minutes of your time each day.

Your intervention starts now at Kalev Fitness Solution! The posture clinic is a 12 session course over 6 weeks that aims to teach you what you need to know to manage your postural deficiencies. The Clinic will be run by our expert kinesiologist here at Kalev Fitness Solution and will start on the 24th of July. Each class will focus on a specific common postural problem; you will receive a handout and be given instructions on how to best manage it. At the end of the 12 sessions you will be equipped to manage, assess and correct most posture problems that develop in the future.
